Why is it important to have reliable tools?

Foreign trade requires accurate decision-making, regulatory compliance and continuous market analysis. For importers, exporters, customs agents, forwarders (freight forwarders) or 4PL logistics operators in Mexico, having reliable platforms is crucial. These tools allow:

Consult updated regulations

Learn about the latest provisions of the Customs Law, trade agreements and current Mexican Official Regulations (NOMs).

Validate tariff fractions

Correctly identify the tariff classification (LIGIE) of goods and their requirements, avoiding costly customs errors.

Access trade statistics

Obtain data on imports and exports by country, product or treaty, to guide the strategy and detect trends.

Track maritime and air shipments

Monitor ships and cargo flights in real time, improving logistics coordination and communication with customers.

Detect market opportunities

Identify potential destinations taking advantage of trends such as nearshoring in North America, which has positioned Mexico as a key partner of the United States

Mexico is one of the most open economies in the world, with free trade agreements which cover dozens of countries. In fact, the country has signed around 12 FTAs with nearly 40 nations including the T-MEC in North America and agreements with the European Union, Japan and the Pacific Alliance.

This multilateral environment offers great advantages, but it also involves complex rules of origin, preferential tariffs and legal requirements. Therefore, to have official and updated sources is essential to take advantage of tariff benefits and ensure compliance with all regulations, both domestic and international.

Below, we present a selection of essential tools for foreign trade (all free of charge) that support daily operations in Mexico and the region. We have organized the platforms by category to make it easier for you to consult.

Regulatory and regulatory tools

This section includes official portals of the Mexican government and related organizations, focused on commercial regulations, tariffs and procedures. They are the basis for legal compliance in foreign trade.

SNICE (National Foreign Trade Information System)

El SNICE is the central platform of the Ministry of Economy for disseminating foreign trade information. It allows you to consult the Tariff rate, explanatory notes, non-tariff regulations and restrictions (RRNA), quotas, certificates and current trade agreements. It is the basic tool for complying with the Customs Act and understand the import/export requirements of any product.

For example, through the SNICE you can search for a specific tariff fraction and learn about its regulations (applicable NOMs, permits, MFN tariff, treaty preferences, etc.). Its use is essential to ensure that each customs operation is supported by the latest regulatory information. In short, SNICE has become a crucial tool for Mexico's export success, motivating and involving companies (especially MSMEs) in international trade.

Economy — SNCI (Undersecretary of Foreign Trade)

Official page of the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade (IF). It offers access to procedures and services related to foreign trade, such as requests for permits, promotion programs (e.g. IMMEX, PROSEC), inquiries from rules of origin and official documentation. It also presents the complete list of free trade agreements signed by Mexico, with details of its provisions, quotas and rules.

Through this portal, agreements published in the DOF, criteria and guidelines for foreign trade operators are disseminated. It is a mandatory reference for keeping up to date with trade policy updates and obtaining primary sources (formats, guidelines, communications) directly from the federal government.

ICCMEX — Business Intelligence

Platform specialized in market intelligence, prices and tariff trends. ICC Mexico (ICCMEX) supports companies with tools for technical analysis of tariff fractions, identification of tariff advantages in different markets and orientation in international regulatory compliance. As it is the Mexican chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), this body is involved in the definition and promotion of global trade standards — for example, the Incoterms update, which the ICC performs approximately Every 10 years to adapt to the evolution of world trade.

At ICCMEX you can find training resources (Incoterms guides, best practices) and advice on trade facilitation. Their approach is to provide strategic business intelligence, helping Mexican companies to understand the rules of the global game and to efficiently negotiate their international operations.

Business Intelligence and Market Analysis

These tools provide foreign trade statistics, market data and economic analysis that facilitate strategic decision-making. They are useful for evaluating international demand, identifying competitors and opportunities for Nearshoring, and plan for expansion to new destinations.

Comercia MX

Commercial Mx is a digital platform launched by the Ministry of Economy to visualize data and connect companies. On the one hand, it offers a module of commercial intelligence where you can check Mexico's exports and imports by country, sector and product, through easy-to-use interactive graphics. This helps to detect potential markets.

For example, an SME can identify countries where its product is growing in imports and focus on them. In addition, Comercia MX works as a network for MSMEs, connecting Mexican companies with potential international clients, suppliers and investors. In short, it is a comprehensive portal for promote internationalization of companies, combining hard data with networking opportunities.

TradeMap — International Trade Centre (ITC)

Indispensable business intelligence tool worldwide. TradeMap provides — in the form of tables, graphs and maps — indicators on import/export flows, international demand, alternative markets and competitors For practically every country in the world. It covers statistics of 220 countries and territories and around 5,300 products of the Harmonized System. It allows you to filter by year, source, destination and product, showing commercial values, market shares and variations.

For example, you can research how many mobile phones Brazil imports, from which countries and with what annual growth, to evaluate opportunities. TradeMap also shows applied tariffs and tariff preferences under different treaties. It is crucial for identifying global competitors (which countries export the same product as Mexico, to which markets they supply) and identify opportunities for diversification. As it is maintained by ITC (an agency of the WTO and the UN), its data is reliable and constantly updated.

INEGI — SISCON (Foreign Trade Consultation System)

El INEGI offers this interactive consultation system, which is the official source of Mexico's foreign trade statistics. Through SISCON, you can access detailed data from Mexican exports and imports, broken down by tariff fraction (HS code), by federal entity, by country of origin/destination and by period (monthly, quarterly, annual).

It is particularly useful for obtaining accurate figures supported by the national statistical authority — for example, the value of avocados exported from Michoacán to the United States in 2024, or the volume of machinery imported from China in a certain month. The interface allows you to download tables and historical series, which supports the preparation of market analysis with solid data. In short, the INEGI SISCON complements TradeMap with the National Perspective, ensuring that business decisions are based on real and verified statistics from Mexico.

Tools for shipment tracking and logistics

International logistics requires visibility in real time of loads, to coordinate operations and react to unforeseen events. These tools make it possible to monitor movements of goods in transit, both maritime and air, which is invaluable for forwarders, operators Gold/roll and specialists in Project uploads.

MarineTraffic

Leading platform for Tracking of ships and global maritime traffic in real time. MarineTraffic uses a worldwide network of AIS receivers to show the location of virtually any ship: container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) ships and even heavy-duty vessels for industrial projects.

Users can search by ship name or IMO number and get their position, course, speed, destination port and ETA. This is ideal for performing the tracking of interoceanic shipments, coordinate port logistics and provide information reliable to customers upon the arrival of their cargo. For example, an agent can check if the vessel with its container has already crossed the Panama Canal or if it experienced delays at any port. MarineTraffic also offers map layers with historical traffic, marine weather conditions and port mooring times, helping to anticipate delays. In the era of logistics 4.0, having this visibility improves planning and reduces uncertainty in the supply chain.

FlightRadar24

Tool analogous to MarineTraffic but for the airspace. FlightRadar24 allows you to monitor flights around the world, including cargo planes. It is extremely useful when driving urgent or high-value shipments by air (for example, just-in-time electronic components or critical parts), or even for Hand-carry (messengers on board). Just by entering the flight number or registration number of the aircraft, you can obtain its current position, altitude, speed and estimated time of arrival.

Logistics companies and forwarders use FlightRadar24 to coordinate airport pickups, monitor connections on international routes and proactively notify the customer of any delay or detour. It is also used in operations Charter dedicated, where following the plane's journey live provides peace of mind to the customer. The platform covers both commercial flights and cargo freighters around the globe in real time, making it an indispensable ally for a transparent and efficient air logistics.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

Although it is not a tracking tool or a traditional statistical database, the site of the WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION (WTO) is a key reference for foreign trade. On the official website of the World Trade Organization you can find the multilateral agreements current (such as the Trade Facilitation Agreement, TRIPS, Anti-Dumping, etc.), as well as news about trade negotiations, disputes between countries and changes in global tariff policies. It also offers World statistics aggregates, business profiles by country and publications on trends (for example, annual trade reports).

For regulatory specialists and consultants, the WTO provides the international legal framework that complements local regulations: knowing the rules of the WTO helps to understand the limits in national policies (quotas, subsidies, safeguard measures) and anticipate changes in the global environment that may affect a company's strategy. In short, it is the portal for getting a macro view of the health of world trade and compliance with international standards in which Mexico and its partners operate.
